Nestled in the vibrant growing region of Valle de Cauca, this lot from La Rochela is a fine example of how far specialty coffee production has come in Colombia. Hacienda La Rochela, the coffee arm of Grupo La Rochela (which also produces avocados and Tahitian lime) has made great strides in their specialty offering since they started producing in 1990. With a producing area of 100 hectares, they now grow some of the most sought-after varieties in the world such as Gesha, Java and Pacamara. This particular lot, a washed Caturra, is the backbone of the specialty coffee movement in Colombia. Caturra’s clean and sweet profile has become a staple of La Rochela’s offering and this lot is the pick of the bunch. In the cup you can expect notes of caramel, roasted almonds and nectarine. A versatile coffee, this works well as both filter and espresso style.
