Ricardo Zelaya

$22.50

A fourth-generation producer growing some of Guatemala’s finest coffee

The Zelaya family have been growing coffee in Guatemala’s famed Antigua region for over a century.  Finca Santa Clara sits on the southern slopes of Volcan de Agua, one of three volcanos that make up the Antigua region.  Due to the extremely fertile volcanic soil, Antigua is regarded as one of the best growing regions in the world; coffee from this region has the distinction of being referred to as ‘Genuine Antigua’ and is known for its big body, and intense chocolate sweetness.  Ricardo Zelaya has been managing Finca Santa Clara since 1988 and has a long-standing team of sixty staff, many of whom are the second and third generations to work the land.  This closeness with his team yields exceptional results in the final product.  Ricardo strongly believes that keeping his employees happy has been the key to his family’s enduring success.  In the cup you can expect to find notes of high percentage dark chocolate, creamy fudge and a subtle hint of rum to round it out.
