Some of the most passionate barista’s we know are home barista’s. We have sold high-end domestic coffee machines to: pharmacists, tradies, sportspeople, doctors, students, mums, dads and grandparents. There is no single defining demographic for these home-baristas; the only commonality is their enthusiasm and love for all things coffee. At Dimattina we stock an extensive range of machines, each with different features and benefits. Recently we asked some of our experienced staff members to test some of our more popular brands and put them through their paces:

Alex Duetto IV – Michael Zekas (Service Co-ordinator)

The Alex Duetto is an Italian-made domestic espresso machine that caters to the home enthusiast looking to take their craft to the next level. As the name suggests, the Duetto features twin stainless steel boilers, a rotary pump (quieter operation and ability to be plumbed in to the mains supply) and a good selection of accessories including a complimentary naked portafilter. An internal PID makes temperature control a breeze allowing for quick and easy adjustment to your brew parameters. Milk texture is also at a very high standard with a cool-touch steam arm and multiple interchangeable steam tips to choose from, it’s hard to fault. As far as the espresso itself goes, you really can’t go wrong with the E61 (commercial) group head that has a tried and tested reputation across multiple brands. Aesthetically the Duetto is a beautiful machine and can be further enhanced with the optional customisation kit that features walnut timber accents. The high-end fittings also add up to an overall feeling of quality workmanship and engineering. It’s also worth noting that this latest model has addressed and fixed a few issues that previous iterations suffered from such as the lack of space between the portafilter and the drip tray; this model can fit larger cups and mugs underneath comfortably. Overall the Alex Duetto IV is an excellent machine and comes at a very reasonable price point for the level of inclusions it has. Click here for prices
