Fazenda Rainha has been in the Carvaho Dias family since 1890. It is currently managed by Gabriel de Carvalho Dias, nephew of the owner and a leading agronomist.

As one of the founding members of the Brazil Speciality Coffee Association (BSCA), and a frequent finalist in the Brazil Cup of Excellence competition, Gabriel has been at the forefront of improving coffee quality in Brazil through careful assessment and redevelopment of all aspects of production. The farm is located at around 1,100 – 1,500 metres above sea level, in the Mogian region of Sao Paolo State – one of the highest plateau areas in Brazil and has characteristics from the mountainous areas of Mogian and from Sul De Minas.

Almost all tasks on the farm are carried out by hand, as the farms steep topography makes the use of machines virtually impossible. Extending over 480 hectares with 190 hectares given to coffee, the geographical conditions of the farm and excellent climate make it natural for the production of specialty coffees. Gabriel takes social and environmental sustainability very seriously.

The farm has consistently made improvements to its wet mill, which is supplied by a natural spring on the estates land, and the processing methods it uses. Waste water is fully treated to avoid polluting the spring and there is an active tree planting programme to repopulate native species (at least 25% of the farms land is indigenous forest).

Most workers are housed on site in the farms 25 fully equipped staff houses. The farm also runs a school bus to take children to school, a social club and a full size soccer field for employees and their families.

They are assisted by health insurance without limitations and have recently built a second unit of Pedro Roza School of Computing and a chapel designed by Oscar Niemeyer for workers. This farm is still producing “Bourbon” coffees, famous for their exceptional quality. In the region there are bourbon trees 107 years old.

The beans are harvested manually on a cloth and prepared by the pulped natural process that separates the greens. These beans receive the maximum attention possible so as not to lose any of the body and cup qualities that the region is known for.

The Brazil Fazenda Rainha is available from Dimattina Coffee Osborne Park, or ordered and shipped directly to your door.
