Up All Night Walk Recap

Up All Night Walk Recap

Boy, March was a busy month of night walking for us.

Just a couple of weeks after hitting the pavement along the Swan River, we were back at it. This time in the Perth CBD for Up All Night, an overnight walk raising funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities WA .

Up All Night is all about doing something hard for one night in support of families who do hard things most nights while staying at Ronald McDonald House. Two distance options, 21km or 42km, meant participants could choose their challenge, hard or harder mode.

While the idea was to do something tough, this crowd made it look like a pretty good time. Glow sticks and glitter were in no short supply, and coordinated team outfits passed the fit check.

We set up shop next to Shak Shuka and Mermaid Hair by Emma, serving cups of our Easy Street blend on donation. Every flat white, long black, espresso and iced latte was a $4 donation back to the Ronald McDonald House. Between myself, Simon and Stu, plus pre-batched espresso on tap, we were a well-oiled machine ready to fuel the masses.

After the Nutbush warm-up routine, both groups set off on the course, giving us a prime opportunity to grab a plate from our friendly neighbour.

It wasn’t break time for everyone from the team though. Leigh and Grace took on the 21km challenge and had just started making their way towards the Perth Children's Hospital. Their highlight was being greeted by the kids, handing out high fives to the walkers.

Simon held down the fort until the early morning finish, keeping volunteers and fellow sponsors going through the night. As walkers crossed the finish line, the machine was hot, serving coffee to anyone not headed straight to bed. With the right recovery drink, there are only good mornings.

In total, more than 1,300 people took part, raising an incredible $1.3 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities WA.

Our second year being part of this one, and safe to say it won’t be the last.

For now though, after two big, late, walking events in one month, we’re hanging up the laces for a little while.
