Adaiber Peña

$22.50

A rare varietal for those seeking something distinctive

Producer Adaiber Peña has achieved no small feat: a successful harvest of the rare San Bernardo variety. Low-yielding and vulnerable to disease, San Bernardo is a gamble most farmers avoid. But at his El Arrayán farm in the hills of Huila, Adaiber’s skill has brought it to life.

First discovered in Guatemala in 1949, it’s a natural mutation of Typica and has since found small but meaningful roots in Colombia. Its reputation rests not just on rarity but on a flavour profile unlike more common varieties.

When we cupped Adaiber’s lot, it was clear straight away: this coffee is a winner. Juicy red grapes, candy-like red jubes, and bittersweet cacao nibs make for a profile that’s hard not to love.

We’re grateful to bring this lot to the shores of Australia, because coffees like this don’t come around often. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
