Tucked into the lush, misty highlands of Alta Verapaz, Santa Isabel is a fifth-generation family farm. Owned by the Valdés family since 1875, the estate spans 300 hectares of rugged rainforest terrain, 200 of which are dedicated to coffee.
Today, it’s run by Luis “Wicho” Valdés, who carries on his family’s legacy with pride. Wicho is fastidious in every detail of farm management, from the estate’s pristine wet mill to the organic fertiliser lab he recently built on site. His approach balances tradition with innovation, pursuing quality while reducing chemical use, improving plant health, and respecting the natural biodiversity of the land.
Wicho also runs the farm with a strong sense of responsibility for his team. Santa Isabel is known for its high standards in selective picking, yet many of the same workers return season after season. It’s a testament to the farm’s fair pay, supportive environment, and the mutual respect shared across the team. Quality here isn’t just a goal, it’s a shared achievement.
This washed Caturra lot is a brilliant expression of the region’s cool, wet climate and long, staggered harvest. Clean and transparent, the cup offers comforting notes of milk chocolate and hazelnut, lifted by a bright nectarine acidity.
