This staggeringly good natural Ethiopia stands apart from the bunch

Werka hails from the hills of Nensebo in Ethiopia’s West Arsi zone, where cherry from smallholder farms is processed at Aash, one of 28 washing stations run by family-owned Testi Coffee. During harvest, around 750 growers from the surrounding villages deliver their fruit here, making Aash a busy hub for some of the region’s most characterful naturals.

Sitting close to the Harenna Forest at around 1,900–2,020 metres above sea level, Aash benefits from a cool, wet microclimate and generous rainfall. Coffee cherries ripen slowly under these conditions, developing dense, sugar-rich fruit that’s ideal for natural processing.

In the cup, Werka is fruit-forward without being too wild. It has notes of juicy peach and pineapple, with a hint of light florals. It’s a vibrant, expressive natural Ethiopia that shines, especially filter-style.
